How to Get to Georgetown
Since Georgetown is a little bit off the Metro, you have to be a little creative in getting there. It’s a short walk from Foggy Bottom (on Blue/Orange/Silver Metro) and a moderate walk from Rosslyn (also Blue/Orange/Silver), or you can catch the Circulator Bus or any of the 30s Metrobuses.
We don’t recommend driving because parking is scarce and expensive, but you have plenty of other options so it shouldn’t be an issue. You could also take a taxi, but it’s not going to be easy to find one going home if you’re out late.
Where to Shop in Georgetown
Whew, so many options here it’s hard to create a good overview. If you’re looking for some classic favorites and reasonable prices, check out the intersection of M and Wisconsin and the adjacent mall. Of course, you can pretty much stroll the entire street and find an interesting shop to check out.
You’ll find everything from J Crew and Anthropologie to DSW. If you’ve got a higher budget, you should check out places like Kate Spade and Intermix. You can also find popular chains like the Apple Store, Lush Cosmestics, and Nike.
Georgetown has practically everything you can think of on the dining front, from casual lunchtime cafes with crisp champagne (Peacock Café – one of my favorites) to great family restaurants (Clyde’s).
Old Glory is a favorite among 20-somethings for their rooftop bar, and everyone loves the pizza and beer at Pizzera Paradiso.
If you’re looking for something a little bit more causal, Chipotle and Sweetgreen are two great options. Searching for a fun pub atmosphere with great food? J.Paul’s is a good pick. Looking to go fancy? Filomena’s is one of the best special occasion restaurants in the city.
Cosa c'è da vedere
Georgetown, as you might expect, is named after the nearby Georgetown University. You should take a short walk north of M street to scope out the beautiful grey stone architecture of this Jesuit school, even if it’s only for twenty minutes or so.
Don’t leave without a stroll along the waterfront, as it’s one of the most beautiful areas and places to see in the entire city. You’ll find a whole new selection of great restaurants here, plus great areas for boating and bike riding.
Looking for something historic? Check out the Old Stone House, one of the oldest buildings in Washington, D.C. (and that’s saying something!). Movie buffs won’t want to miss a chance to see the infamous staircase from the original Exorcist film, located at the far end of M street.
